Economist.com: "The link between age and health spending is less straightforward than it might seem. It is true that older people are heavy consumers of health care: spending per person on the over-65s is three to four times higher than on younger adults. However, much of this higher expenditure is incurred in the last two years of life. This is also true of people who die younger, which suggests that as people live longer, costs will be deferred rather than raised. "
