on PR vs. FPTP. Electoral systems offer a spectrum between electing candidates purely on the basis of geographical constituencies or purely on the basis of party votes and ideology. Geography<------------------------------------------>Party Canada is purely in geography, whereas a tiny country like the Netherlands is purely in the party end. Most systems are somewhere in between. Geography allows you to choose a candidate and gives more represenattion to rural communities. Ideology allows you to choose a party and gives representation based on where people happen live.
