Why affirmative action is needed: Racists have plausible excuses for their racism; one can't ever prove that they're being racist. Thus, people'll be passed over for promotions, etc. and won't be able to do anything about it. Hence, some equality. Insights hit you harder than arguments because of the value of personal experience.
