Next Generation - Inside World of Warcraft Gold Farming: "Contrary to popular belief, MMOG farming is definitely not exclusively a Chinese phenomenon. There are farmers from all over the world, but Indonesian workers were a large part of his sample. Rather than working in sweatshops, as much of the media would have you believe, many worked in office buildings.
Workers are often paid a flat salary per month with quotas, rather than being paid as a function of the gold they produce. For example, one case had a Chinese worker earning $120 a month for his services (which as compared to other jobs available to him, was a lot of money)."
